My Favourite Summer Recipe
Guess what I just finished whipping up?
The best, most skin nourishing, effective, and non-toxic sun cream!!!
I’m not a big DIYer but when my youngest 2 kids kept breaking out in rashes from any sunscreen I bought, it was time to make my own non-toxic version.
I’ve been using this recipe for 7 years. I started using it on my youngest before he was 1 when we couldn’t avoid the sun (3 busy boys in summer - very difficult).
Save this, screen shot it, keep it handy in case you ever want to try it. I can’t give you a specific spf but if I had to guess, in my opinion it works like a 25-30 and is crazy water repellent (water just beds off)!
There are many opinions out there on sunscreen and sun exposure and diys. For me, I believe that most sunscreen out there is not helpful in avoiding skin c***** and may actually increase the chance of it or cause many other issues that disrupt your hormones.
So this DIY is the best option for ME!
Ingredients
½ cup almond or olive oil
¼ cup coconut oil
2 tablespoons shea butter
¼ cup beeswax
2 tablespoons non nano zinc oxide
1 teaspoon red raspberry seed oil (optional)
4 drops of Helichrysum essential oil
4 drops essential oils (my favs are green mandarin and calming blend)
Combine first 4 ingredients in a glass jar.
Fill a medium saucepan with a couple inches of water and place over medium heat.
When all ingredients are completely melted, remove from heat and add the zinc oxide, stir in well.
Add in Helichrysum and any other essential oils you'd like.
Stir and pour into whatever jar or tin you will use for storage.
Stir a few times as it cools to make sure zinc oxide is incorporated.
Best if used within six months.
** side note: Vitamin D is one of the most important nutrients for overall health, and the sunlight is one of our best sources of it. Aim to get at least 30 minutes of sunlight each day—without sun protection!
Soak up the sunshine!
