The Foundation of Great Hair Begins With the Scalp
Why is it that we are always so focused on our skin and our face and not really ever consider our scalp when it comes to treatments, facials, exfoliating, massaging….
For healthy-looking hair, go straight to the source no matter if you need:
- Hydration
- Nourishment
- Soften the scalp
- Soothe dryness
- Reduce sebum buildup
- Restore a clean scalp surface
- Cool + refresh the scalpnormal, oily, dry.
Factors that Effect Your Scalp:
As we age our scalp's skin gets thinner, flatter and drier and the glands that produce oil become less effective.
Dryness and irritation makes the scalp more susceptible to damage, which can lead to signs of premature scalp aging. As a result the hair becomes less supported and nourished.
Other factors that effect the health of our scalp are over/under washing, wearing a hat, overuse of hot tools, unhealthy colouring of hair, perms and environmental factors like extreme hot/cold, humidity, salt water UV rays and pollution.
One more thought to consider … our scalp is usually the tightest area in our body … the stress and tension it’s under is a lot - have you ever tried squeezing your scalp between your fingers … most people’s doesn’t budge BUT it actually should! It should relied enough that there is movement.
My top 2 tips to start taking care of your scalp:
Give yourself a scalp massage weekly - there are specific scalp massage brushes BUT a simple hack is to use your hair brush and massage your entire scalp in circles
When you shampoo your hair - you should actually be shampooing and massaging your scalp - that’s the whole point!
I do have several other products and treatments that I use and recommend to others - if you’re interested, give me a shout. My most favourite scalp products are Scalp Solutions but Aveda - amazing!
