Seasonal Allergies
It’s that time of year … constant sneezing, congestion, drippy nose, itchy, watery eyes, scratchy throat, fatigue… seasonal allergies can make life downright miserable. So many people suffer every year, ME included!
The good news, there are things you can do to support your body and minimize your “symptoms: before they start and give you relief when you’re in the thick of it. I have tried it all - pills, allergies needles, eye drops, nose spray, honey, essential oils, diet overhaul, etc. So what I’m going to share with you here is my personal favs that work AND are natural … no sense pumping your body full of synthetics.
Let me start off with the symptoms I get:
-
Fatigue
-
Runny nose
-
Itchy eyes
-
Water eyes
-
Congestion
-
Itchy throat
-
Bumps, swelling, red arms or legs (whatever is exposed)
I have learnt if I want to decrease my “symptoms” that it’s essential to be proactive:
Support the body’s inflammatory response
Eliminate inflammatory foods, control blood sugar, exercise, manage stress… basically keep those healthy habits flowing! Keep your immune system running strong!
Reduce the mucous production & keep the lymphatic system moving along!
Drink lots of water (with lemon)! Gargle with salt water. Use a saline nasal spray.
There’s a lot of research out there to support apple cider vinegar shots daily!
As mentioned already - exercise!
Take digestive enzymes daily (this is my FAV)! Digestive enzymes help the body clear toxic-waste buildup in the body & increase the “flow”.
Dry brushing and massages are also fabulous for circulation - I love to add a few essential oils to both of these (doTERRA’s AromaTouch or Slim & Sassy)!
Support the gut
Balancing the gut bacteria has been linked to having positive effects on allergies. So we add in a high quality probiotic capsule (this is my FAV)! PLUS include plenty of fermented food & drinks in your diet to boost our good gut bacteria!
Essential Oils
Let’s not forget about essential oils - they can be incredibly powerful and effective at supporting our body and providing relief! My top 5 picks are:
-
Lemon
-
Lavender
-
Peppermint
-
Tea Tree
-
Eucalyptus
Here’s how I use them:
Lemon, Lavender, Peppermint diffused together in the house, applied topically in a roller bottle around the sinus area (careful around the eyes), and my FAV way is to swish them in my mouth and swallow!
Tea Tree & Lemon are 2 amazing oils to clean the house with & be proactive with supporting the inflammatory process of my body.
Eucalyptus is incredible at helping me breathe easy! Breathe it in, rub it on the chest, diffuse it! It’s also a great one to support the body’s circulatory system!
Lavender & Tea Tree applied topically with fractionated coconut oil on any areas of my skin that get irritated promote calming, soothing, supporting to the skin.
