I think that’s my biggest lesson of 2020!  I’m sure many of you feel the same!  Going along with this idea, I have also learnt  to slow it down, fill my heart with what’s important and be done with all the rest!  I learnt to let go of the expectations and pressures I or others set for me and to put the blinders on when scrolling social media.

I am typically not someone filled with a lot of “excuses” or procrastination, I don’t take a lot of time to “rest”.  In fact I had a friend send me this quote pic … “on the 7th day she rested.  Just kidding.  She prepped the food.  She picked up the house.  She planned the workouts.  And she foam rolled the but …. This was me to a T.  Not only the fact that there’s never really been a “7th day of rest” in my life BUT all the things in it are what I do!!!

Part way through 2020 I fell hard. I exhausted myself in every way and then surrendered.  You see for me I’ve never really cared what others thought about me except when it came to my business, I have always felt like I needed to show up and over deliver.  Well when the craziness hit I felt the need to show up bigger and try “all the things” in my business.  WHY?  To give back, to help others, to help myself stay busy, to make sure my business would survive, because it’s what I do.  So when the total exhaustion hit, it was time to completely let-go and deep dive into self-acceptance and love life in the moment.

I’ve started being intentional on what is working and what I’m loving in life right now in the present.  Taking a look at what is working is allowing me to appreciate the moments, all the moments and celebrate the present.  I’ve cracked open this new focus, this new outlook.  I’ve started learning to appreciate and love and live more in the moment so that I create the life I want in the future.

I am typically someone who looks into the future, I don’t dwell on the past or even the present.  I get an idea or inspiration and I just have to go with it, there’s no waiting or really thinking it through first.  Thoughts and ideas are always running through my head.

When I get an idea or inspiration, it’s go time - anyone else rearrange an entire basement at 11pm because they had an idea?  Or just start painting every inch of the house because they had ½ a day not planned.  How about planning and the doing of the month of work that your assistant was supposed to do because you got an idea and just had to get it all done?

Some of you may be reading this thinking I’m crazy and my life sounds exhausting - most of the time it energizes me!!!!  But my point is - what I really learnt in 2020 was to slow down, appreciate the things that are working, love life in the moment, and then think more into the future.  I’m sure this is a lesson many of you have learnt this past year - no matter what “type” of a person you are!  This is ultimately the best way to create the life you want in the future - especially with so many unknowns flying around right now.

I read this recently and thought it was a perfect summary of 2020 for me:

Love your life and what you've been given, it is not accidental.

Never stop dreaming, because it allows you to become that which you aspire to be.

Appreciate and enjoy the little things in life.

Recognize the special people you've been blessed to have in your life.

Live for today, and enjoy every minute in the moment!
